Art from Life

My art is a map of my life. I express myself in response to the world around me in lines and color.

My kind of Art

Acrylics & Mixed Media

Broad brushstrokes on large canvasses filled with swathes of vibrant colors. Layering textures using a variety of tools beyond brushes. Big feelings expressed larger than life.

Digital Art printed on Canvas

Finger painting on the mobile screen using apps like sketchbook and now Procreate on the iPad. Electric colors and strokes created with the varying pressures of the index finger. Minimal use of app tools and layers. I treat the screen as a physical surface. Printed on large canvasses without losing tonality and stroke quality is my forte.

Observers

 56”x50” Mounted Canvas

An observation of society – there are always two sides to a story. Each person’s point of view is different. In today’s world narratives shape the story and history. An honest, open approach is the only way to build a healthy future.
The figures and forms with large open eyes are inspired by rustic imagery of deities especially in the temples found in the Himalayan ranges where often deities are represented on large rock faces.
The vibrant, warm hues layered over one another evoke a certain feeling of hope.

Girl in a Coffee Shop

12"x19.2" on mounted canvas
A student in a new city. Stars and clouds in her eyes. Youthful energy to find her place in the World and an invisible thread pulling her back to the comfort of home.

The Awakening

52”x31”  Mounted Canvas
Early morning runs in a lush trail dotted with lakes, trees and flowers. Rising heart rate, trance like state of mind  spark a million wonderful ideas and sometimes an epiphany. An awakening of the spirit in cadence with the rising sun.

Dissonance

 30”x14” Mounted Canvas

Mental Illness is a serious epidemic. This painting represents a person in depression. His external world is seemingly fine but the dark depths of his mind are impossible to climb out of. The vivid colors in the background suggest that though everything looks fine, there is a deep dissonance as reflected in the strokes.

‘Selfie Mode’

 14”x30” Mounted Canvas

A whimsical look at the selfie culture. These cookie cutter girls stop anywhere and everywhere to pout their lips and take a picture is an amusing but reflects on a society that needs to conform even when trying to be different.

The Weight of Expectations

36”x25”

Mixed Media on Canvas

Over burdening the child with generational expectations. The aspirations of the elders are unspoken burdens couched in attentiveness and toxic love.
A large format acrylic painting using geometric forms and dense yet bright colors show the ‘boxed in’ attitude and heaviness in family relationships.

 Displaced

 25”x36”  Mixed Media on Canvas

War, natural and man made disasters are driving the disadvantaged from their homes into the vast unknown. This painting represents a mother with her children in search of a safe haven. The galaxy like background and the hopeful expressions suggest that even the most unfortunate circumstances can give rise to a better future.
